Beth El Synagogue Center Wins Award for Excellence in Synagogue Programming

POSTED: JANUARY 2012

The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism has announced that Beth El Synagogue Center in New Rochelle has been selected to receive a Solomon Schechter Award for Excellence in Synagogue Programming. The award goes to congregations affiliated with the United Synagogue that have distinguished themselves during the preceding two years in various aspects of congregational life.

Winners have been honored at the December United Synagogue’s ka11ah 2011, held this year in San Diego from December 1-4, 2011.

The Solomon Schechter Awards, named after the founder of United Synagogue, have been awarded to hundreds of congregations since 1950. The awards were instituted both to recognize excellence in synagogue programming and to help spotlight models that other synagogues might emulate. This year’s selections were based on a variety of criteria, including imaginative and creative use of resources, as well as the program’s impact on the congregation’s membership.

Beth El Synagogue Center has received the following awards: Gold Award in Libraries; Gold Award in Early Childhood Education; Bronze Award in Website; and Bronze Award in Bulletin.

The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism promotes the role of the synagogue in Jewish life to motivate Conservative Jews to perform mitzvot encompassing ethical behavior, spirituality, Jewish learning, and ritual observance. Combining an awareness of communal responsibility with a strong sense of commitment, the United Synagogue is a dynamic force within the Conservative movement.
