Westchester Hebrew High School
Celebrating 40th Anniversary
POSTED: JANUARY 2012
Westchester Hebrew High School is celebrating its 40th year with an anniversary dinner and alumni tribute that commemorates 40 years of academic excellence.
The dinner will take place on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 5 p.m. at Temple Beth El, 350 Roxbury Road, Stamford, CT
Honorees are current and alumni parents and students representing four decades of graduates and families from the schools’ founding to the present. These people have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to the school and its work.
Parents of the Year are Penny and Stephen Block, Dr. Barbara Coven and Dr. Sandy and Neil Marantz.
Alumni of The Year- Bryan Herstic, class of 1976, who met his future wife, Frimet (‘82) at WHHS and all of their children are graduates of or present students at the school. Philip Pravda (‘86) attended WHHS along with his siblings, Sacha and Evan, who were all part of the growing WHHS community in the late 1980s. The unparalleled teaching staff coupled with the intimate class sizes provided him invaluable learning and social experiences.
Alumni Family of The Year- The 1990s are represented by Ari (‘94), Leah (‘97) and Dr. Jason Fischel (‘99), along with their parents, Flossy and Sam, alumni themselves who have supported the school when their kids were students and to this day.
Rabbinic Alumnus Award- Rabbi Eytan London (‘04) remains connected to the school, returning most recently to serve as a Judaic Studies faculty member.
Members of the Graduating Class of 2012 are the youngest honorees, as they are soon to be the newest WHHS alumni.
“WHHS is proud to recognize these alumni, as well as all the students who have passed through the corridors of our school,” said Head of School, Rabbi Jeffrey Beer. “WHHS provides its students with opportunities to develop in the Jewish and global communities. In that capacity, our students go on to assume leadership positions on campus, in the workplace and as volunteers, making a difference in the world around them.”
Board co-presidents are Stuart Berger and Diane Werner, whose extraordinary efforts were integral in putting this benefit together. Dr. Nancy Block, Dean of Students, handles community service projects and student life.
“We want the community to come to the dinner, to support the school in any way they can and ensure that all students have access to a first-rate Jewish education,” said Tami Stalbow, WHHS executive director. “This is the school’s largest annual fundraiser (and) helps meet scholarship needs.
