Bronxville Resident Volunteers
to Lead Running Club

As a volunteer for Westchester Jewish Community Services (WJCS), Bronxville resident Ann Ghavamian has started a running club with participants at the Mary J. Blige Center for Women, a collaboration of WJCS and FFAWN (Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now). Outfitted in “Running My Life” tee-shirts designed and provided by Ghavamian, the running club participants meet twice weekly at the track at Van Cortland in the Bronx for an hour.

“I named the program, “Running My Life,” to send the message that we are all in charge of ourselves and can make all our own healthy and positive decisions every day,” says Ghavamian. “Each woman goes at her own pace, whether it’s walking, a slow trot or running. It’s all about getting regular exercise. We start out stretching and chatting. We also incorporate conversation about healthy eating plus motivating each other.”

At the end of each trek, the group cools down with water, an all-natural granola bar and a high five for a great morning!

Located in Yonkers, The Mary J. Blige Center for Women, a partnership between WJCS and FFAWN, is committed to providing girls and women with skills, knowledge, resources and supports that will empower them to pursue their personal goals and become self-sufficient, confident women.
