MARCH 2011

“PURIM in the JUNGLE”

Rabbi Benjy Silverman, Chabad of the Rivertowns, invites the entire community to come to the jungle for Purim. On Monday, March 20th, 4:00 pm, Chabad House at 303 Broadway in Dobbs-Ferry will transport you to an African jungle with African drumming, a rhythm circle, savory jungle flavors, light jungle refreshments and an enthralling interactive parrot show.

The exotic Parrot show will feature one of the world’s best trained parrots. The performance is fast paced, upbeat with unusual feats of balance, memory and a special blend of animal talent. The musical coordination and timing combined is what makes this performance one of the greatest in the nation.

“We are really pleased”, said Rabbi Silverman, “that our Purim celebration will be filled with high energy and spirit through the amazing drumming from a world acclaimed drummer.” Marlon Sobol is a professional drummer who has performed in Madison Square Garden with pop reggae star Matisyahu. As a professional musician, Marlon Sobol has shared the stage with many musical legends including Richie Havens, David Amram, Candido Camero. Sobol was featured on the Grammy nominated album, “Youth” and has appeared on the Carson Daly Show.

“As we listen and participate in the rhythm circles, we will celebrate the salvation of the Jews from Haman’s plot to destroy them more than 2,000 years ago,” said Rabbi Silverman. “And during the course of the evening, special guests from Crown Heights will read the Megillah, the description of the salvation in the Book of Esther, so that everyone can learn about the miracles that occurred. There will be groggers to shake at Haman, Hamantaschen to eat, African hair braiding and a multi-media presentation.”

“Purim in the Jungle” is open to all. A suggested donation of $10 for a single, $25 for a family and $54 as a co-sponsor would be appreciated.
